Some German Shepherds have a long coat, but as this is a recessive trait it’s not as commonly seen as the shorter coated GSD. They will also shed twice a year, leaving a significant amount of hair behind! The double coat of the German Shepherd does require brushing every few days to remove loose hairs. It’s more likely that they will have a darker patch across their back. You may have seen parent dogs advertised as black saddle silver German Shepherds, but what does that actually mean? The saddle refers to the patch of darker colored fur, which covers the majority of the dog’s back.Īny German Shepherd Dog with silver coloration is less likely to have a silverback German Shepherd pattern. And have a muscular, strong body, with pointed ears and a dense double coat. They are large dogs, weighing between 50 – 90 pounds and standing between 22 – 26 inches tall. The silver Shepherd Dog is no different to a GSD of any other color, their appearance is going to be in line with the breed standard. This quote from the founder of the breed, Max von Stephanitz, is an excellent one to bear in mind: It’s important to emphasize that you should always prioritize the temperament and health of a puppy you’re considering taking home, rather than the color of their coat. This means that a relatively dark coated puppy could develop into a mature black and silver German Shepherd Dog. Different colorsīear in mind as well that the final color of a puppy will only be clear once the outer coat has fully developed. While you may see a working silver sable Shepherd, that would be a very unusual color combination. There’s more color variation within working dogs, compared to dogs bred for the show ring. It’s likely that silver is a recessive gene, which could be why it’s not seen as often as some of the other colors. Despite this, it’s not seen as often as the black and tan preferred by many breeders.īlack and tan dogs won’t have the sable gene, which is why if two black and tan dogs are bred together, none of the puppies will be sable. The first registered German Shepherd Dog was sable in color. Within the German Shepherd breed, the gene for sable is dominant over all other colors and patterns. The Genetics of the Silver German ShepherdĬoat color genetics are complex, with the exact genes responsible for silver coloration yet to be fully identified. It’s likely silver German Shepherds have been cropping up for generations among this pedigree breed, but they can skip a few generations as the gene that produces the color is recessive and so can remain hidden in dogs that don’t have two copies. Expanding from its pastoral herding roots to showing its utility as a service dog and in police and military canine units worldwide. The German Shepherd Dog, also frequently referred to as the GSD, has shown its versatility as a breed. Von Stephanitz spent 35 years dedicating his life to improving the breed. Cavalry Officer Max von Stephanitz decided he wanted to breed the ideal herding dog. The history of the German Shepherd Dog, of course, can be traced back to Germany. It doesn’t have a distinct history separate to the rest of the breed. The black and silver German Shepherd is essentially the same as any other color of German Shepherd Dog. The white coat color is undesirable within the official description, and even leads to disqualification from the show ring. Washed out colors, including blues and livers, are considered a serious fault. This may be why silver grey dogs are less common. Strong, rich colors are generally preferred in this working bred dog. At first glance they might look like an older dog that is going grey, but this recessive gene expresses from birth and isn’t a result of aging. You won’t find a totally silver German Shepherd puppy, but they can have a large number of shining hairs on their face, body and legs. Silver German Shepherd dogs have a coat that changes the classic black and tan up to include a special silver sheen.

Traditional Chinese instruments can be generally grouped into two common categories: string and woodwind. The pinnacle of the development of traditional Chinese instruments was reached in the Tang Dynasty, during which the emperors were masters in music, and many exotic instruments were introduced to and adopted in ancient China due to frequent cultural exchanges between China and other regions of the world. Cumbersome instruments like the Bronze Chimes gradually gave way to compact musical instruments such as woodwind and string traditional Chinese instruments like Dizi and Guqin. However, the music managed to find its way to common people. At first, the musical instruments were exclusive to the upper social class serving as a symbol for their status, power, and taste, distinct from the lower classes. As early as three thousand years ago, up to 70 Chinese musical instruments were played to please the royal family and aristocrats. It can be tempting to loosen the professional boundaries in what is often an unstructured work environment. For instance, you might drop by during dinner time or be present during a heated argument between a teenage daughter and her father. Blurred boundaries: There is a certain level of intimacy present when interviewing a client in his or her home rather than in an office. Several ethical quandaries can occur when your primary contact with clients happens outside an office, especially issues related to blurred boundaries, accepting gifts, and confidentiality.ġ. You might even consider carrying animal crackers and juice boxes to help pacify cranky kids. These items can be purchased cheaply but are invaluable to keeping young children occupied. Ideal physical conditions for an interview include comfortable seating and room temperature, freedom from distraction, ample space to move around, and a sanitary location (Hepworth, Rooney, Rooney, Strom-Gottfried, & Larsen, 2010). This is not the case when seeing clients at home. When interviewing a client in an office setting, the social worker has some control over the environment. You might explain to clients that you are a guest and ask them to advise you if you are breaking any of the house rules. Observe obvious rules in the home (shoes by the door or feet off the furniture, for example). You may ask to move at some point during the visit, once rapport has been established.ĥ. Upon first contact with a client, social workers are often met with some barriers. Finally, service barriers such as limited transportation and scheduling conflicts can be avoided with home-based services (Collins, Jordan, & Coleman, 2010).ĭespite the benefits of seeing clients in their homes, there are some inherent challenges and things to keep in mind when interviewing parents and children in their home. Third, interventions delivered in the home, rather than in an office, might be easier for clients to implement, since the home is where problems often occur. Second, working with clients in their homes enables the social worker to “meet the clients where they are” and to potentially reduce the power differential inherent in work with mandated clients. Observing clients’ living situations (conditions of the home, safety concerns, status of neighborhood and community, and so forth) can provide valuable and relevant information for assessment and case planning. First, as social workers, we give special attention to our clients’ environment and how this affects their functioning and well-being. Many benefits exist to seeing clients in their homes, particularly when working in child welfare. Certainly for social workers practicing in the field of public child welfare (e.g., child protective services, family preservation, foster care, adoption), visiting clients in their home is the norm, rather than the exception. Yet, in many areas of practice, the majority of client contact is “in the field,” which typically means seeing a client someplace other than your office. When first starting out, making a home visit to see a client can be an intimidating and even frightening experience for social workers. |
